Top Speed Takes Down Nationally Ranked Palm Spring Power

Last year Top Speed Baseball and Palm Spring Power both finished nationally ranked in the final Top 50 for Perfect Game.  Top Speed finished ranked #36 and Palm Spring finished #18.  Unfortunately Perfect Game is not doing national rankings this summer for 2014 , because if they were both of these teams would be Top 25 teams without question.  Top Speed’ swim against last night proves again why they are one if the best teams in the nation once again., especially when they play 39 of their 55 games on the road.

-Top Speed Baseball improved to 20-3 on the season with a huge victory over formally nationally-ranked Palm Springs Power (20-3) Friday night in a 4-1 win.

Ryan Eddy (College of Idaho) went 8 2/3 on the rubber for Top Speed as he allowed just one run (unearned) on four hits, walked two and silenced a high-powered Palm Springs offense with 13 strikeouts.

Logan Truex (Concordia University Irvine) earned his eigth save of the season as he came into the ninth with an inherited runner on first and two outs. He walked two to load the bases before getting a swinging strikeout to end the game.

Scott Mitchell (SE Missori State) got Top Speed on the board early, with a two-run homer in the top of the first. Mitchell finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Top Speed tacked on two more runs in the sixth.

Ricky Rodriguez Jr. (Sterling College) and Rob Smith Jr. (Chabot College) each collected two hits forTop Speed as the team surged past the Power in the hit department, 10-4.

Nick King was the only player to make any real noise off Eddy as he managed a 2-for-3 showing and later drew a walk.

-Both Top Speed Baseball and the Palm Springs Power (Southern California Collegiate Baseball League) sit atop their respective league standings.
